If half of a male homosexual relationship is considered the man or woman role in that relationship, then why can't the man that is considered the "woman" role in that relationship have a relationship with a woman who is considered the "man role" in a relationship? If a homosexual man prefers a man, and the woman is the "man role" in a relationship, then wouldn't that still be a homosexual relationship??

In most homosexual relationships there are no "male" and "female" roles. That is generally something heterosexual people have created to make it easier to understand how a homosexual relationship would go. It's more complicated that "who is whom" but few people wish to know about the complexity or go very far in trying to learn about it.

The issue is not the ROLE in the relationship it is a sexual preference. It has nothing to do with being a man and women or feminine or masculine. I as a gay man am attracted to men, bodies and minds. I do not find the curvces and other things of a women appealing. I have a boyfriend that has the same parts I do thats what defines us being gay wanting sex with the same sex. The roles a person plays in a relationship as being Dominate or submissive as your implying has nothing to do with sexual preference. That has a whole different set of rules. which I can't get into here but that could be a good question for you to ask next =) !! hope That i helped

First off, remember that not everybody defines themselves like that. Some homosexuals do like a masculine/feminine dynamic and do fulfill 'man' and 'woman' roles, but a good deal do not at all.

Secondly- remember what the word 'homosexual' means- it's talking about sex. Sex is what is between your legs- if you are a man or a woman. Gender is about how you act, dress, talk, behave, style yourself, and everything else, your masculinity or femininity or androgyny or whatever, and sometimes the 'role' that you wish to fulfill.

In order to describe any relationship as homosexual, there must be two of the same sex involved- two women or two men. Whether it is two feminine men, or two feminine women, or two butch men, or two butch women, or a butch woman and a feminine women, or a butch man and a feminine man doesn't matter. If you put a masculine woman in the 'man role' with a feminine man in the 'woman role', it's still a heterosexual relationship, albeit one that I'd call 'queer' (in a good way).

I hope that makes sense.

I had to read that like four times....lol. I still don't understand what you're asking though. Are you tryng to ask why can't a butch woman and femme man be together? Well, they can...watch season 3 of the L word...a butch woman (Moira) straps it on for a femme man. Very cute! But no, that wouldn't be a homosexual relationship I don't think. Because one is male and one is female, their genders are different. Different=hetero, same=homo. It'd be just like Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver getting freaky with some role reversal in the bedroom ;)

You got it all wrong.
"Homosexual relationship" means a relationship between persons of the same gender, not the same "role".
However, I also think that "male homosexual relationship" is a self-sufficient term. There are two males both playing a "man role" no matter how femenine one or both of them may be.

The difference lies in sex and gender. While in a homosexual it's believed that the partner's play opposite gender roles, but their biological sex remains the same. Gender is a social construct. If a man allows himself to be lead by a woman, he is stereotypically feminine but he is not a woman as he doesn not possess any of the biological and phenotypic traits of being a female.

What?

Again another question that has got me all tangled up, I think basically what your saying is how come the man who has the women role in the relationship just doesn't have a relationship with a butch lesbian......?

Well if that's what you mean, ummm it doesn't really take that much explanation, just because a lesbian is butch doesn't mean she still doesn't have boobies or the other thing....lol.

I'm attracted to men, not a butch lesbian. I have lesbian friends, and that's all the farthest either of us want it to go.

I have rarely met any men who act like "the woman" in a relationship. I have rarely met any women who act like "the man" in a relationship.

Being gay isn't about roles or gender behavior or how you dress. Its about liking dick, snatch, or all of the above.

i believe it is less a man role vs. woman role and more of a dominent role vs. passive role. i think societal history has put too much emphasis on women being passive because of lack of strength. which results in a woman and man role due only to societal excentricities

because you've got it all wrong...there is no role playing...,nobody plays male...nobody plays female roles. Gay/lesbian sex doesn't follow the same gender roles as straight sex does. You cannot begin to understand homosexual relationships until you can forget about gender roles.
