Guinea pigs need a variety of fruits and vegetables in their diet. As a general rule, fruits should be given as treats because of the amount of sugar on in them.

That is one of the best nutrition charts I have seen. It rates vegetables as "ok to feed daily", "1-2 times a week", etc. I think it really helps newbie guinea pig owners figure out what to feed their new pets.

Guinea pigs, unfortunately, have fairly complicated dietary needs, and pet stores are clueless when they send them out to their new homes.

You can buy Guinea Pig food that has grains and Alfalfa pellets and a little Calf Manna and a good timothy hay or small amounts of alfalfa hay.

Good choices of veggies include: kale, spinach, turnip greens, parsley, romaine lettuce, and
dandelion greens.

Avoid or limit cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, collards, bok choy and other cruciferous vegetables as they can lead to gas production in the digestive tract. Also avoid starchy vegetables like potatoes.

For fruits: Carrots, carrot tops, green and red bell peppers, apple (no seeds), apricots, bananas, blueberries, cantaloupe, grapes, oranges, strawberries, and tomatoes can also be fed.

Any greens, vegetables or fruits should be introduced gradually or a digestive upset may result.

We have a guinea pig and a friend of mine raises them. We leave guinea pig food in his dish at all times, but it doesn't have all the nutrients they need.

They cannot make vitamin C so you have to make sure they get a dose of vitamin C every day. We.give ours a wedge of an orange every morning. Sometimes we give him a carrot. Every morning he also gets lettuce. Leaf lettuce, either red or green, is fine. Iceberg lettuce is NOT good for them, though. It has no nutrients and is hard to digest.

Lettuce is not good , you could give to much and he will get sick!! just buy guinea food that has all the vitamins he needs and give treats sometimes to be safe!! carrots are o.k. but not all the time! just as a treat !
