It should fit without any problems. You might have to change out the oil pan to fit the 4X4 style Crossmember. Transmission shouldn't be an issue. You MIGHT run into some Exhaust issues. I "Think" the engine out of the 2003 will have exhaust ports similar to that of a Ford engine or a BBC where the 4 ports are evenly spaced and your 97 will have the standard SBC exhaust where the middle 2 ports are right next to each other.

Email me back with the 03 engine size and the 97 engine size...If the engine size is the same and the providing the 97 is fuell injected like the 03 and all the wiring connectors will work yes..but if 97 has tbi unit and doesn't look just like the one in the 03, you can still make it work...email me back at gotspeed7883@yahoo.com

i own a repair shop,and it should exchange with ti,,if both engines had the same ignition system,and i think they did have,,they should exchange,,i know i put one from a 99 back in a 94 model and it worked fine,,no problems at all,you have to set both of them side by side though and change all the stuff from yours to it,,there's a little difference in some of the sensors and the way they hook up,,other than that the engines,are pretty much the same,,good luck hope this help,s.happy new years also.

no they are not a direct swap the 97 has a different block the efi systems are different and the ignition is different. you can make it work they have a complete kit from turnkeyengine supply
