My cd-writer is not working properly. It will play any cd you put into it but when I try to burn a cd, it tells me there is an inaccessible drive or an invalid function. I used to be able to drag and drop items to be burned onto the cd-writer drive but I had to re-install windows and now it won't work. The only software I use to copy files to cd-rom is Windows. Any information on how I can fix this would be greatly appreciated. I tried using Windows help feature but it wasn't very detailed on how to fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

Ok well I've fixed this problem, now when I go to burn files onto the cd, it says that there isn't a recordable disk in the drive and to insert one when there already is one in the drive. I've tried this about 5 times now with CD-R's and CD-RW's both types are Memorex brand. Any advice as to why this error keeps coming up even though there is a cd-rom in the drive? Or is my cd-writer drive just slowly dying? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Best thing is do a search in the above green box with white box - the people out there in Answers are so diverse and I think someone will have asked this question before. I personally would say you need a new cd read/write drive. Sounds like it is on its last legs. I had one go bad like that, just gradually.

You talk of copying files to a CD.

I have two burners, a Samsung and a Dell. In order to use a CD/RW as a floppy, you must first use CD/RWs, and they must be formatted with the software that powers the burner.

I used them for backups before the availability of flashdrives. Now, it is so much easier to just backup to the flashdrive and they have come way down in price.

there is two a threat reason for this subject: a million. You by twist of destiny in basic terms run burn simulation. 2. Your CD-RWcontinual is malfunctioning/ defected product. If that is nonetheless in guarantee era, declare for a alternative. notice: i've got used 4 Samsung Optical drives (2 CD Drives, a million DVDcontinual, and a million CD-RWcontinual) All broken in 7 months. If that is out of guarantee, I propose you purchase yet another form.

Problems reading and writing CDs are common. In many cases, the problem can be solved by checking the PC with free software, hardware modifications and cleaning the CD drive. I found the information at http://fixit.in/cdrdrive.html useful.
