Yeah, dogs are like that. There are some "waterless" shampoos for dogs that you rub into their fur and towel off. These can keep the dog looking and smelling cleaner in between baths. But most dogs really like rolling around, especially if there is something smelly to roll on. My dogs once rolled all over on a dead fish. It was awful, but they didn't do it to be annoying. It's part of their heritage as predators. Having a nasty scent can make a pack animal a more effective hunter. Just think about it: If the wolf pack is drawing close to the deer herd, the deer will panic and run for it if they catch the scent of the wolves. But if they smell a dead fish, they won't worry, because a dead fish is not a threat to their safety. Seriously!

If you are bothered by having to bathe and groom your dog, consider a different pet next time, like a cat or a bird, or a fish. (Just be aware that there are still cleaning chores associated with any pet.)

Keep it out of the mud. If you can't do that, try wiping it off with a wet washcloth instead of a complete bath...baths all the time are hard on dogs' skin.
