You know. It might be a good way to let the ex finally learn he's an ex. Let me explain.

You go over, he will probably say or do things he thinks will get you back. You look him in the eye very seriously and state in front of everyone that you are not there to be hounded all night. If he can't leave you alone, then you'll go somewhere else.

The only thing is, don't be in a room alone with him under any circumstance. If his family is attempting to assist him, they may arrange it.

Remember, you're the one in control. You can leave when you want and you are under no obligation to do anything more than have fun. No matter what happens, leave with a smile on your face.

PS: Don't drink and drive.

I'd go... but if your ex has been trying to get you back just let him know ahead of time what your intentions are... so as not to start off the new year in a bad way... My ex spent Christmas Day with my family ( and we do not have children with each other that would tie us together) and he's been invited to spend New Years Day with us also.... we are friends... nothing more... good luck and Happy New Year

I would imagine it would be terribly awkward. Were you invited personally or just your family? If he was still interested in you appearing I would think he would contact you personally, or send a note. I don't want to be crude but possibly you are reading more into him wanting to get back together than is true. If the two of you are meant to get together again - it will happen but I would not want to make this Party awkward for everyone else. Good Luck. Make a party of your own, rent some movies, buy some special treats that YOU enjoy, and make the best of it.

drop the ball and the old family for New Years! Who are you trying to impress, enduring an entirely uncomfortable situation, and for what? Anything your ex has to say to get you to come back can certainly be done in a more appropriate forum than a party.

i think u should not go ,i think it will give ur ex the wrong message, so get together with some friends and go to the movies or stay home and have a couple friends, explain to ur family that u think it might be in ur best interest not to attend and give them the option to be with u but don't be offended if they chose to go to ur ex's good luck and happy new year

New Year = New Start

Don't carry old baggage...move on...do not attend. Be spontaneous find somewhere else to go on the spur of the moment. You will have fun!

Sure you should go even though it would be a little awkward but you would get used to it after a while.

If you think it's going to be too akward for you and your family then don't go, but if you think you will have a good time then you should go...
