Can only a certain type work with the 360? Can I buy any discount Ethernet cord and it will work?

Any ethernet cable that's not a crossover cable will be fine. Still, i would recommend getting a CAT 5e or CAT 6 cable because it has better performance.

ethernet cord is all the same dont go out and buy the cheapest one but also dont go out and buy the most expensive one a good ethernet cord will run u like maybe 10 bucks like a 6-12 ft lenght depending how long you want it

you will need an x-box specific cable (about40 bucks) to go box to box. They switched two wires inside for some reason. But if you use a router or hub between the two xboxes you can uses a regular ethernet cable.

I bought mine from Wal-Mart and it works fine,it was a cheaper one.
