An adult, teen or whoever can make a huge difference. Watch the movie or read the book "Pay It Forward" as inspiration. As examples, think of the accomplishments of these people on history: Alexander the Great, Lincoln, Einstein, Martin Luther King Jr. One person certainly can make a difference.

As for believing the facts, if they truly are documented, provable facts, then belief has nothing to do with it. If you mean convictions or principles instead, then you will definitely need those if you are to proceed with your actions with any type of true motivation. Without strong convictions, you will probably burn out in a short time.

Taking on a good cause and making people listen requires a lot of energy and time. You are less likely to expend that energy and time unless you are firmly convinced in your own heart and mind that the cause is true and worthwhile. It's one of the arguments used by Christian apologists - Why would the apostles preach about Christ and die horrible deaths if they knew it was a lie?
