Freewebs.com, Geocities.com, as already mentioned .tripod.lycos.com,
Just a few hints. Beware of "free" websites because some of them ask you a lot of personal information that they use to sell to marketers. Also some websites like tripod have a lot of pop-up banner ads that come up when your site it loaded.
Also consider how large a site you want to have as many free websites have restrictions on how much content you can have.
If you just want a simple website to put some text information and a few pictures, freewebs is good one. They don't ask personal information and have a single ad banner on your site (no pop-ups).
If your going to have a lot of videos or large files and/or want a website for business, its best to get a pay site for that. Minimal downtime and tech support is important if you have to run a business.

Freewebs.com or invisionfree.com. It depends on what you want to do and what you will be doing. If you're going to start a business, or a club, group, etc, you can also use groups in yahoo or google. I would prefer invisionfree.com. It is very convinient, although you need to know all your HTML and codes because if you want to make your site professional, you'll need that kind of knowledge. Freewebs.com is just simple and easy. If you want a free domain, prices are usually $15 a month or $70 a year average.

To get a free site hosted is very common and easy but then you can't have a registered domain name or be able to submit search engines.
You can use a site like http://clansites.com to host a free site but your site has to be called yoursite.clansites.com. or otherwise yoursite.providers.com and if you are planning to make a small company, free sites dont allow eCommerce or the ability to submit ur sites name on search engines. Which means if ur site is called applesinpink.clansites.com and you go to yahoo and search applesinpink, nothing would show up.
Also I do not recommend freewebs.com It is limited to their designs and you have no FTP access so you can't mass upload new things or use your own templates. http://clansites.com lets u use ur own design, templates, and have full FTP access which lets you truly make ur own site.
