It's not like there is anything we can do about it. If it happens then it happens and we all die. I will live my life to the fullest and hold on to my Cabernet until the time comes, is this really shallow?

It's not shallow, it's realistic. There really is nothing you could do. I think people talk about it because people like "what if" scenarios. It's entertaining.
