she got a new gateway for christmas and just days after it stopped working. when you turned it on it did nothing. she tried restoring everything with the cd-rom that came with it but so far that has not worked. there is nothing else we can do because it wont load anything, it wont even go past the "press f11 to start system recovery". does anyone have any ideas on how we can fix it?

Normally, I would try testing the motherboard and memory and CPU to see what's wrong. But since your mother *just* got the computer, most likely it's still under warranty, so I would call up the support number for Gateway. I would not open the computer at all because it might invalidate the warranty. Call them up and tell them what you're experiencing. They usually have a set of questions they'll ask you to help determine what's wrong with the machine.

If it's not getting past the CMOS setup, then it sounds to be a hardware issue. It could be a simple as a hard drive cable being disconnected or it could be as serious as a hard drive or RAM that needs replacement.

Call Gateway and have them fix or replace it. That is what they are there for. There is no point in racking your brain, when there is a warranty service to take advantage of.

why dont you call the computer`s company and tell them you what to return it and you will only pay them as much money as you did for the first gateway. Good Luck :)

I would definitely get hold of Gateway and tell them your predicament. If it is brand new then she should be able to have it replaced or fixed free.

Good Luck.
