Were Einstein's equations mostly drawn off of the curiosity's of astronomy ?

Pretty much, he wanted to know how the universe 'worked' he belived there would be an exact mathmatical equation to be found eventually that would explain everything in the known universe, now known as GUT 'Grand Unified Theory', hope thay find it!

Not knowing what you call Einstein's equations I can only say that most of his work was unrelated to astronomy.
