Any business that you choose to start up is going to require an investment. You have to understand that you are purchasing a business that comes with tax breaks, so you need to expect to start with at least a little working capital.
With any home business, it takes a while before you start seeing an income, but if you are dedicated and really put your mind to it, you will start seeing a profit sooner rather than later.
Start-up costs don't have to be high, in fact, if they are, it's probably not a good company to start with.
The company I have was a $35 start-up fee, plus one case of product. So for less than $200 I had a home business up and running, but I need to really roll up my sleeves and work it so that I can create residual income as well as leverage.
You can replace or surpass your current income in a short period of time, but you will have to work hard.
It's still better to work at home than out in the world, provided you can discipline yourself to put aside time each day to dedicate to your business. If you can do that, you have won half the battle.

become a internet distributer. Pick a product, get a website, start selling. It's easy, cheap, and fast (once you are on the search engines)

Of course by saying this I'm assuming you have some basic web management skills under your belt.

Some people do artistic things, or crafts and sell them. I don't have any skill, but if you do, you may be able to make some money.

My buddy seriously considered selling custom t-shirts over the internet (using stencils and fabric paint) and selling the designs over the internet. I thought it was a great idea, but since he's only 16 (and has no credit card) it was an unpractical idea (as it's hard doing internet business without a credit card).

Some people make soap, some make carvings, some do candles, some do paintings. If you can do any of these with skill, you may want to consider selling your work.

One of the first things I would recommend that you do is start thinking about your interests/passions... and go into an internet business that is based on that. Why? Because it makes the work a lot easier.

Answering the following questions should help you develop ideas:

1) what websites do you visit when you're just surfing online?
2) do you have pets?
3) do you play and sports?
4) do you collect anythings?
5) do you have any specialized education?

See what I mean....

After that, you've got to decide the business model that you want to use - do you want to develop you own product or do you want to be an affiliate marketer (market other peoples products)?

Then you've got to learn basic skills such as building and uploading websites, setting up autoresponders, setting up a merchant account to take orders, etc.

And then, probably the most important part... you have got to learn how to market you business.

If your interested in starting up your own internet business, then I would like to recommend the following great resource:

Well, you could try being a day trader on the stock market, but that takes a lot of effort and research every day. Or you could start a web-based business, either designing websites for clients, selling items on Ebay, or something similar.

Or you could try being an inventor. If you can find a need for something, and you can figure out what it is, you might be able to fill that need and become modestly rich off of it.

Also, you could look on the internet for other solutions.

I have written about home-based jobs on my blog. Yes, there are definitely a lot of scams online. I suggest that you start finding freelance projects first. This will help you be more knowledgeable on which ones are true and which ones are scams. I could give you two sites that have a long list of freelance jobs/work at home jobs requiring no payments fees.

Also, you may want to resort to opening your own online business. But of course, you have to really research everything first.

Good Luck!
