It used to be easy to compare computer processors by looking at the clock speed. I was at Circuit City today, and the clock speed is not shown anywhere. How do I compare AMD processors with Intel? Is there a website that explains it all?

Tom's hardware is a good site. Go to their interactive CPU charts. They give you benchmark results for many commonly-used programs for all the processors currently on the market.

In general, Intel's previous generation of processors (Pentium 4, Pentium D, Celeron D) are slower than AMD's processors (Athalon 64, Athalon 64 X2), but Intel's newest generation of processors (Core 2 Duo) are faster. But only at the top and near-top end- everything else comes down to price/performance and either one may turn out to suit you depending on your needs.

Im just going to tell you what you should look for in a processor if you want it to last you at least five years.

>>64 bit------All AMD chips and Core 2 duo Intel Chips
>>Multi Core--------Core 2 Duo and AMD chips that say x2 after it
>>65 nm architecture--------Core 2 Duo and the . The X2 4000+, 4400+, 4800+ and 5000+ AMD chips
>>Clock Speed-------I would suggest at least 2.4
