Be very careful! There are a lot of scammers out there who will be glad to take your money!

I'd recommend asking your local fire department to put you in touch with one of the many legitimate programs helping the families of the firefighters who died on 9/11. All victims deserve rememberance and all of their families deserve assistance but the firefighters were doing their jobs, trying to protect us, and I think they should be your first beneficiaries.

Talking to your local fire department helps weed out the scammers and thieves out there. Firefighters are a very tight community and even if you live on the other side of the world, they can be in touch with each other easily.

I'm providing a link for one of the more popular web sites that firefighters and their friends/families visit--- check it out for charity suggestions.

What you would want to do is look up these people independently through newspaper articles etc.
This way ALL the money goes to the person and not all the political mumbo jumbo.
By giving to a organization or a "non" profit group there is advertising costs, staff costs etc etc. All your money does not go where you think it does.
Help out those who were victimized by sending the money order strait to there door.
Just think of the women who's husband had been killed and she has babies to feed and just think of the look on her face when she opens the envelope to find money inside and a personal note from you!

Keep up the great thoughts of helping! What a better world we would live in if more people were like you!!

The New York State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) World Trade Center Police Disaster Relief Fund was established as a program of the New York State Fraternal Order of Police Foundation. The program was established to help ease the financial burden for the families of the law enforcement personnel who gave their lives on 9/11 and to provide financial assistance and other necessary services to other fellow law enforcement officers (and their family members) seriously injured during the rescue and recovery mission. Please be assured that the money collected has and will continue to go towards these efforts.

Or, you can give money to those who have lost their lives fighting the war on terror to make sure that their children go to college.

Those people have been set for life already. Think about donating to some other place that helps people who are just as much a victim as the 9/11 people but who do not get so much help because their tragedy was not on the news.
