$50,000 for a single person. Add $10,000 per additional family member. That much gives you security if you understand the importance of money management, modesty and gratitude.

At the very least $45,000. actually more like $1,000 a week= $52,000. Heck the price of rent or buying a home is outrageous now and groceries are ridiculous plus gasoline, @ $2.50 a gallon, a little more or less. Plus utilities, and savings, clothing and other neccessities, $1,000 a week is cheap.

Depends on your location and lifestyle. My gf and I (living together) are grossing just under $45,000 combined and we're doing ok. I'd like to have more of a cushion, but as long as you're not making any large purchases or are drowning in debt it's liveable.
It seems like we should be making more since we're both college grads, but that's where the location part comes in.

To fairly answer that question . . . it would depend on where the American lived as the cost of living is to changeable all over the country. Even vastly changeable within any one state or any one area of town within that state. So would need to know where that person lives and what part of the state and part of town to answer question of comfortable cost of living.

in southern California a survey was done saying the average household income needed to be about $119,000.00 to purchase an average home 1400 square foot. my friend just bought an 1100 square foot home and paid $349,900.00
so i say $250,000.00 per year would make me feel secure.

Thats just such a random question. Depends how many bills they have accumulated and if you have another source of income (spouse) and if youhave children and a mortgage.
Too many variables there.

I know how much money I need to make but I think it varies from person to person depending on where they live, if they have any children, etc.

between my wife and myself we make $100,000 a year + Co. paid benefits (med. dental, etc) thats just about covering it here on Long Island, and it's NOT a fancy neighborhood. New York "PAY" is fantastic but, it's very expensive to live here.

enough to buy all the things that the rest of the Americans are in debt for.
An oversized house, three SUV's a bit smaller than the house, and anything else needed to boost their ego
