Are their different types of dragons? What kinds?

Yes. There are many different kinds of dragons.
There are the European dragons, which are the big lizardlike evil ones that eat princesses and get slain by knights. You know the kind. They're often depicted in movies. Huge batlike wings, big strong beasts. There are elemental dragons - water dragons, fire dragons, earth dragons, and so on. There are the Asian dragons, the more benevolent kinds, and I'll devote a bit of time to these as they are my favorite. They are the long serpentish ones with the antlers. They have two kinds of scales, the majority being Yang (the good) and his belly scales being Yin (the bad). They can usually fly. And they cause hurricanes and typhoons and things when you offend them. There are Amphiteres, which are basically dragons without all four legs. There are winged serpents, like Quetzalcoatl, which are just that, snakes with wings, although Quetzalcoatl has a human form. There are all kinds throughout legend. Many, many, many different kinds. Wikipedia talks about them, and goes into good detail, but I also suggest draconian.com. That has some interesting information. For books, you can check out "The Hill of the Dragon" which talks about the history of the dragon legend itself. There's a book by Dr. Karl Shuker which goes into dragons quite nicely.
