The equation of a straight line is y = mx + c, where (m) is the slope/gradient - two parallel lines are ones that have the same gradient so in this y = 2x - 5, your slope or gradient m is 2 and your y-intercept c (the point at which the line cuts the y-axis) is 5, so therefore any line with a 2x in it simply is parallel to it -
y = 2x + a, where a could be 2, -2, etc...because it would have the same gradient/slope.

If a line is parallel to a various line, this means that the slopes of the line are equivalent, however the y intercepts are diverse. finding on the respond alternatives, the only one with the comparable slope simply by fact the equation y = -2x + 5 is y = -2x + 5/2. consequently, its the line that's parallel. selection C is the suited suited answer.

y=2x+b
b is the "y-intercept". That's where the line intercepts the y axis. So in your equation, the y-intercept is at y = -5. By changing it to another value, you move the line up or down. The 2 (referred to as m in the generic line equation) is the slope of the line... and as long as the slope of two lines are the same, they are parallel.
y=2x+0 would be a line higher up (through the point (0,0)), but with the same slope.
y=2x-10 would be a line lower down (through the point (0,-10)), again with the same slope.
y=3x-5 would NOT be a parallel line because the slope is different. Any lines that have different slopes intersect somewhere and are thus not parallel.
Hope my answer was clear and helpful!

the equation y=2x+c represents the line parallel to it.
Two lines parallel to each other must have their slopes equal. the coefficient 'm' of x in the equation "y=mx+c" represents the slope of the line. hence, if a line has 2 as its slope, it would be parallel to y=2x-5

A parallel line has the same slope as the line it is parallel to.
If the equation of a line is y=2x-5, then the equation of a line parallel to it.
EX: 2X+10=y

Hello:
The general rule of thumb is that parallel lines need to have equal slopes. Here is your setup:
y = x +
So as long as you keep the y=2x part you should be able to adjust the -5 to anything. Go ahead and try it on a graphing calculator.

If you juggle your equations to take on the form
Y = mx + b where m and b are real numbers, then
m represents the slope of your line and b represents the y-intercept of your line (the point on the y-axis where the line intersects it). The equation is one of the standard forms for a line: slope-intercept form. (The special cases where the line has zero slope: y = constant; or the line has undefined slope: x = constant don't quite fit the model, but are not hard to understand.)
So if the "m's" are the same in your pertinent equations then your lines are parallel -- even if m = 0, or m is undefined.

Any equation of the form y=2x+c
for example:
y=2x
y=2x +1
y=2x - 6
This is because the number before the x (in this case 2) represents the gradient of the line and, if two lines are parallel, then their gradients must be the same.

Which ever equation has a "2x" in it. You see, parallel lines have the same slope and the slope is the number on the x.
