Some people are just born with the talent...
I went to a hip hop class and the instructor did teach us step by step and with levels (slow-moderate-fast) All dance classes are different though!

I have been dancing for years! I love it, it is my most common talent. Dancing is what I'm known for! I dance with a studio, that's where I started out when I was 3. I am also a part of the church's hip hop group, which is one of my most exciting experiences. I have learned different steps from different teachers. Studios aren't always the best, but it is good to start out with a teacher that way you learn some technique. It is hard trying to start with no/little experience. I have always praticed and had fun by listening to music, and watching videos to get some ideas. Then I play some tunes, and dance away! I just bust a move and when I find something cool I write it down. Then i usually take it to school, show my friends, and am applauded for a great master piece! Well, good luck! Have fun! and bust a move!!!

I take ballet tap and jazz, all with the same teacher. She shows us a step then we do it together a few times until we have it down pretty well, then she'll show us anther step and do the same, after that we put the steps together and continue adding one at a time. I really think you should try a class, its not as "scary" as you might think. It will be worth it, I PROMISE!!!! Learning off of videos alone isn't the best way to learn, you might not be using correct technique and no one is there to correct you of give you tips and things to work on.

Practice moving side to side, backward, left three and turn, then 3 steps back and turn. Count the steps.. get a person to show you how or continue to watch MTV videos for specific moves.. Dancing is easy; You can just stand still, shake your head and move your hips or shoulders and enjoy those moves.. don;t be shy it's easy.

if you want to be successful at dancing you will have to eventually get over your stage fright. Unless you just want to dance in front of the mirror or by yourself, then it doesn't matter how you dance, becuase no one will see you.
as far as dance class. there are a vareity of styles of dance to learn. And you would be taught step by step. if you have the money, consider private lessons.

Some of the dance studios offer free lessons when they want to hire teachers. I didn't make it as a teacher, but I got free lessons.
Being in a class is easy, because most are beginners.

It depends on the teacher. The main thing about dancing is that you've got to take risks and prepare to look stupid. It's not as unattainable as it looks.
Take a class. Your interest may inspire you to pursue the hobby.
