I have 2 daughers, both got their ears pierced as soon as they were born.. I am from South America and that is just the custom over there...First of all, the sooner you get it done, the better, less pain and no memories!!! At least over there they get it done in the hospital before leaving, like the 3rd day they are born...they don't use ear piercing guns anymore, since the cartilage in the baby's ear is very soft and will easily pierce with the earring and a soft push. I never had a problem of infection, pulling on ears, etc...if you do pierce them, diamonds sound wonderful, just remember they must be tiny aqnd with baby safe screws in the back so they don't hurt her skin. They sell special earrings for babies. I have no cons, they look adorable, it hurts less the smaller they are, and girls with no earring slook like something is missing...I know here in the states people look at me strangely when they see my 10 month old with her little pearls, but even so, they say how cute she looks!! good luck...
p.s. get a certified nurse or experienced person to do it and lots of sterilization (earrings, cotton, hands, etc.)

We did our daughter at 3 months. We used the cheap ones (whatever it is Claire's pierces the ear with) at first because they were the simplest at that age. On her 1st birthday, we presented her with her first pair of diamonds. However, about 6-12 months later, we noticed as her earlobes grew, her earrings were no longer centered. And that if she chooses to pierce more holes, it'll look very strange. Currently, we are debating taking them out and letting them close up. She can then pierce them with her own choice when she's older, w/o the worries of the earlobes making the holes off-centered. Only dilemma, hubby wants her to continue wearing diamonds!!

You do have your ears pierced right? If you don't get them pierced, then and only then can you make such a decision.
This is your princess, but you want to do something like piercing her ears as a baby?
My oldest wanted this done, OK fine took him to a place and he screamed and yelled how he did not want it done...
Infection can set in, then if your princess is allergic to whatever you put into her body. Some people still feels this acceptable to do to babies, I just do not think this way. People even think this is mean to do to a dog..Waite until she is old enough to make up her own mind.
At least peeps circumcise there boys at birth, not when they are 6 months old....

I peirced my daughters ear at 6 months old, and it was ok. She did just fine. You really have to make sure and keep them clean. Also, watch putting and taking clothes off. Yes, they do have recommended types of metals to use for babies. I used really gold on my daughter. The fake metals can cause allergic reactions. You can buy her expensive diamonds, but truthfully, from experience, I wouldn't. If I could only count how many pairs of earrings I have been through since my daughter first got her ears peirced. It is really cute to see babies with their ears peirced...I would say GO FOR IT!! Just be careful.

I am not sure about buying expensive diamonds. But if you get it done, you need to make sure you go some place where they do both ears at the same time. It is something that you have to take care of daily for like the first 2 weeks and will have to be watched carefully for infections. You may also want to make sure the backs are the type that screw on so that you do not lose the earings.

I pierced my little girls ears when she was 2 months old, right after her 2 month shots. I think that the earlier the better. Make sure you go somewhere that will do both ears at once, especially if she is 6 months old. Because, after you get the first ear done, she will not let you do the second or it might come out uneven due to squirming. Make sure that whatever earrings you do choose are either gold or surgical steal posts to make sure she does not get an infection and also, very crucial that you get screw-back earrings that are tight. This will ensure that she does not take them out when she is bigger.
My daughter got her first pair of fabulous Diamond Earrings when she was 5 months old. She is now 5 years old and I have only taken them out 2 or 3 times to clean them!
Good luck, hope this helps :)

I would wait a while. With both of my girls, they had to be old enough to ask to have their ears pierced before I would do it!
( they are 7 and 5, and both got their ears pierced when they were 5!) I used it as a tool to teach them better hygiene, and more responsibility for themselves, and they were old enough to understand what was going on! I have seen infants with their ears pierced, but I have also seen infants and toddlers rip them out too! I wanted my daughters to be able to realize what was happening. I also got a set of holes done for myself when they did... made for a good mommy day with each of them! I wouldn't buy real diamonds, but studs should be solid gold or hypo allergenic.... they can be infected easily! Good luck in what ever you decide!

I am so against piercing a baby's ears. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make your princess more beautiful. Nothing. Not the most expensive diamonds in the world. Babies are beautiful on their own. They don't need any help.

I've seen my six month old cousin get her ears peirced. She cried, but she was over it in a few minutes. Most girls want there ears peirced, and I think it's a good thing to get it done young so they don't remember the pain. If she gets older and doesn't want them she can always take them out. It's a good thing that you are buying expensive earing though. If you don't she could get an infection. Don't feel bad about it. Once it's over everyone will think it's so cute. If I would have had a girl I would have done it. It is no worse than a shot. It's good for her in the long run. My sister worried herself sick about getting it done. It took her a long time to get up the courage and then she said it wasn't even that bad. I had to get mine repeirced a couple of time when I was around three. I wish my mother would have done it when I was a baby.

Well the good thing about getting a baby's ears pierced so early is that she won't be pulling on the earring so she can't pull it out before it heals. You have to make sure that you clean it and everything for her since she is not old enough to be able to do it herself. I would think that any kind of earrings would be fine, but if you had any questions you could ask her pediatrician.
