Can a fourteen year old even be legal to work at that age?Anyhow I have a fourteen year old son who's almost fifteen and I wouldn't allow him to work because that would mean less time getting a education and to me that's most important thing then money.

I had my first job when I was in 8th grade. I was a telemarketer for the city newspaper. When I was 14... actually, all throughout high school I worked at a clothing store in a mall. I would never do fast food but retail experience actually helped me get better jobs later. Before you take a job, think about how it will help you later on down the line. I know it's hard to see at 14 but look at it like this...
Working at a clothing store can help you (after college) possibly get a managerial position in retail or may even get you into marketing.
The best part of clothing stores is that you get good discounts and working at the mall was a lot of fun!

Try finding a job within your school. I think 14 is a bit young to start working. Or try doing odd jobs around your neighborhood. such as raking leaves, shoveling snow, etc.
Don't rush into working yet. You'll have another 50 years to do that! And trust me, once you start working, you start counting the days to retirement!

The starting age that you can work is usually 15.
Not sure how it is in your location but that's how it is in South Carolina.

Most places won't accept minors under the age of 16.
Your best bet would be to take up a paper route, or, do work such as mowing lawns, raking leaves...etc...
