Blog is short for web log. People used to build web sites and post their thoughts, journals, and diaries online. They were called web-logs for a while, then it was shortened to "blog".

Comming from the word webblog, it is simply that a log on the web, kinda like a live journal, it's where people write a whole bunch of crap like a journal where people on the internet can read it
