ok,,,,so last week i found a lump.....went to doctor....she actually found a few lumps and was a little worried....so yesterday i finally went to get an ultrasound. the doctor said i could ring her for the results.....so i did. but i could only speak to the lady at reception,,,,she said the results came back fine, no cancer, all is good. but she couldn't give me any more detail than that. and until i go back to the doctor ( which i don't want to do anytime soon as i have spent four hundred dollars in the last week and a half) then i can't actually know what it is exactly...i mean i know i don't have to stress and it's all ok.....but what the hell could these lumps be? they aren't any different when i get my period....they are always the same! any ideas?

You don't mention how old you are.

I would demand a telephone call from the doctor. To have to be told about followup by a "receptionist" is not very good customer service (yes, we in the medical field do deal with customer service).

Women come to me pretty much every day with a breast "lump". On xray (mammogram, which is what I do) or ultrasound, all that shows are the regular breast tissues that are always there. Weight changes, hormones/birth control pills can change the structure of the breast. Often the woman begins examining her breasts and feels "lumps" she never felt before she paid attention to it. Breasts are not a static organ. They change and grow and shrink. VERY IMPORTANT: The fact that your doctor is "concerned" means very little in the long run. there is NO doctor in the world who remembers a patient's breasts from one visit to another. That is why we mammographers RELY on women who examine their own breasts.

By the way, for a young woman (<30 yrs), ultrasound is the exam of choice. Mammography is radiation to the breast, and the breast is so physically dense in most women of that age, it would not be worth it. Let the radiologist request mammographic imaging after the ultrasound.

Call to speak to the doctor. Tell the receptionist you are not satisfied with her answer and you want to speak to the doctor personally, and (important) you are sure you can followup the ultrasound results over the telephone. o/w you will have to pony up the money and go back to the office. If that happened, I would hog every SECOND allocated for that appointment. ;-)

Most likely cysts but did you get a mammogram? Thats the best way to detect abnormalities.Could be a blokage in the ducts .

These could possibley be cysts filled with fluid. They are heriditary and just annoying but not dangerous
