Much of the greatness of that film lies in its point of view. As you know, it's not narrated by Mozart himself but by his rival, Salieri, who is driven mad by his shame of his own mediocrity and his willing conspiracy against a genius whom, he believes, was touched by god. To undermine Mozart's creative and financial bearing is, to him, to sin against the lord himself. He is plagued by guilt. Arrrg, the psychological complexities of that film are so layered it's almost astonishing. And also, it's a film that shows the transcendent, truly life-altering potential of music -- any music, be it symphonic, rock, whatever floats your boat.
See it again!

It was not only a great movie but i think it's becoz the charaters are so intriguing, one moment you're disgusted by mozarts mannerism the next you feel such sorrow as he lays there writing his final piece, the jealousy of the other character was so bitter yet you pity him, but sometimes rather side mozart. who would have thought the life of this genius was so dramatic, most people won't even know his life story till they caught the film.
Have to admit though mozart does crack me up.

This movie is great! If you love dramatic historical dramas and Mozart you are set! It's fictional but very entertaining.

Mozart...look him up...hes only the best person ever in the history of the world - as he got older he went crazy...lead poisoning will do that to you every time
im outraged i got 2 votes down...i know mozart more than all you hooligans combined...eat my clarinet (shorts)
both mozart and Beethoven died (most likely) of lead poisoning. most people did in their time...lead was in a lot of the pills people took when they were sick...

When you mature you will understand. I guess you missed the part where he went against all traditions in writing his opera. That's the same a Elvis twisting his hips and singing rock and roll. The difference.. Amadeus was a brilliant writer not just a show boat.

Gosh, that is an old movie. But I liked it. I doubt it was very historically accurate but it was an intriguing tale about jealousy and revolved around one of the most fascinating historical geniuses ever.
