The contemporary locations are not fixed.
The continental drift theory and plate tectonic theory have alluded on the basic fact that no absolute location is permanent.
Continents are still moving due to the great convectional currents in the pyrosphere.
the recent changes, relative positions and continuous sea-floor spreading reveal that the concentration of continents won,t remain same. All continets will assemble in western hemisphere after another geological era.

It it very conplex. You have several things at play here. First you have our magnetic field, next you have our sesmic movment, or tectonic plates, which are moved by the molten lave under neith our crust. Because molten lave is liquid it is greatlky affected by the pukll of the poles. The molten lava is moved by the magentic pull in general, therefore the magmetic pull has most to due with it.

The polor caps vary every year, and even daily. Occasionally the south poles and north poles even swap places. Where ever the pull is tilted a certain way, and in this lifetime, North tilts the Earth's axis some 23°.5 away from the perpendicular, all liquid will pull to a certain place mostly due to a more magnetic pole. In our case it is the North Pole, which is why land above it flows north, and the southern pole is a land mass instead of a hole such as the north pole. I know it is confusing, but I hope this helps!

Because if it were not, you would be asking "why is the greatest percentage of the Earth's landmass found in the southern hemisphere?"

Seriously, the current distribution is transitional and eventually it might be the other way around. Your question is a good one, but there is no obvious reason why it is that way.

Chance.
And it is temporary (a mere 250 million years ago, most of the land was in the southern hemisphere).

PS: check out the animations available through the site.

2nd PS: the quicktime version works better on my computer, and you may have to go back a bit over 200 million years to make it obvious that more than 50% was in the southern hemisphere. I've changed the number in the first sentence above.

Wow, there are a couple of really stupid answers to this question. One person has it right: Chance. Nothing more spectacular or meaningful than that.

When God was dividing the land masses he stumbled and accidentally moved an area northward. He didn't see it move and forgot about it...
