Now what? Can you transfer somewhere? Can you appeal? Any ideas or suggestions? Would love to hear any experiences anyone has had. Thanks.

Applying for an appeal only works if there was something that happend causing her not to be able to complete her work. Try to get the GPA up and then go back in the summer, or Fall :)

Since she is only in her third semester, I would recommend getting her GPA up at a community college. I have known many peers who have done this after drinking their way out of their first few semesters of college. Most can be readmitted into the same college again on academic probabtion, of course that is all dependent on the college rules. A low GPA the first few semesters is not the end of the world! Good luck!!

Also, if your child has a learning disability you might be able to appeal through disability services.

If she's on probation, she has 2 choices..she can appeal at her one school and wait for an answer or transfer but if she transfers she will still transfer in on probation. Either way, she will have 1 sem. to bring it up or will be suspended.. if she has been suspended at her current school, then she cannot go to any school for as long as her suspension is active (usually 1 sem)... I have had to appeal like 4 tiimes and if she has a valid reason to appeal (death, illness, etc.) and can provide documentation of that by doctor, etc. that will help a WHOLE lot in the appeals process. I have gone thru this more than you will ever know..if you need any more info..e-mail me

You don't say what kind of school she is being kicked out of, but if it's college and she can't make the gpa maybe she needs to work for awhile and decide if she's serious about school, then attend a community college or take remedial classes to begin with if she really wants a degree.

She might also take a look at vocational classes like radiology or beauty school if she has difficulty in general classes.

If she's been kicked out of high school I'm guessing it's a charter or private school, so you might want to try public school or adult ed, depending on her age. Many states also offer online high school classes, so she can work and take classes at the same time. Your local school district should be able to give you this information.

You might also find a private school for kids with problems that might be willing to take her, but chances are it will be costly. There are also mail order high schools, and high schools that you pay to go to and work at your own pace.

Good luck!

You really need to say what kind of school your child is on. I have four daughters, and I want to know for sure who in hell will kick a child out of school because the GPA is not higher than 2.0. All my children are different in terms of learning, therefore who to say because they can't keep certain GPA they need to be out of school. Now, if is a university, then I guess is different.
