My mom and I just saw an ad for the January 4th show which hints that Petersen may be leaving the show for good. I've read a few articles stating that Petersen did not want to renew his contract because he is unhappy with how the producers are handling the show and making so many spinoffs...anybody know if this is fact or merely rumor?

Fact: William Petersen was is a play and had to step off the show for a few weeks
Fact: William Petersen's contract is up at the end of this season.
So it remains to be seen if he will renew his contract or not. Who knows if he will be back for season 8 or not. I hope so.

William Petersen has frequently expressed discontent about the show and is often rumored to be leaving. Although this happens every year, I would consider it a real possibility that after this season, he will leave or appear in less episodes in the future.

He will only be gone for about 2 episodes to do a play out east. An Actor Liev Schrieber will be replacing him. The name might not ring a bell but if you see him you will say "Where have I seen this guy before". Peterson's contract is up after next season and he has always hinted about going home to Chicago to do plays that nobody will care about. I love the guy but stay on the show.

you know im gonna say it's all rumor until you see some solid facts. if the case that he is unhappy with producers it could all be hammered out by next week and you would never know. just let it happen

The story that I heard was that he is doing a play, and wanted some time off. If he is really leaving it has to be an amicable reason, or they would kill his charecter in a lab explosion.

Could be he is tired of the show and all and/or maybe a ploy for more money per episode. Time will tell, he is great in the role though...

don't know for sure,but I can say the show wouldn't be the same without him.Once you get used to characters on a show,then they leave,the show itself 9 times out of 10,falls apart.

He is leaving, but he'll be returning after a couple of weeks. He just needs a break.

Iread somewhere he was ill? and was on leave for awhile last season?? maybe he is sicker?
