Go to the court house and file papers, you don't really need a lawyer for this, better to have one then doing it yourself..The paperwork is simple to understand and they have people there to help you with them...There has to be a court order, unless other party is just willing....

Depends. It depends on the state you live in and it depends on if this is the first custody determination or if you are trying to change a custody situation.

In some states a court can order joint custody. In other states the court CANNOT order joint custody unless BOTH parties agree! Joint custody is not easy. It requires a high degree of cooperation, communication, and the ability for the exs to act in the best interest of the kids always. If you can't stand your ex, if you can't talk, can't be in the same room, joint custody will NOT work.

If this is the initial custody determination - you have a better chance. If you are trying to change a situation where she has sole custody and now you want joint - it will be an uphill battle.

It would be worth your time and money to have a consultation with an attorney. It would probably only be an hour. And she can let you know if you have any chance, how long the process would take, how expensive it would be.

If what you really desire is more time with your children, more quality bonding, more interaction and more involvement you can have all that without having "joint custody." Just jump in there and be an involved, available parent. Your children will love you for it!

Good luck.

You dont have to actually get an attorney (just in case if money is low)..this is something you can do yourself! Call the county court and ask them to mail you or you should stop by to pick up the forms that need to be filled out. Might cost you a bit (depends if you're divorced or not) but this is something you can do on your own.

Lawyer and so on...it's a bit of a battle but it will be worth it in the end...and if you're fit to be a joint parent then the judge will grant u that right if he doesnt then you're out of luck!
