Usually when they're angry, horses make a high-pitched whinny that sounds like a squeal. This usually results from a higher ranked horse bossing around a lower-ranked horse, or if two horses begin to fight. I've also occasionally heard my horses make an abrupt bellow, or something of that sort. Kinda hard to put in words :/

Neighing or whinnying usually describes a horse calling for its herdmates from a distance, never within the herd. Horses in the wild (mustangs) hardly ever make sounds, as to not attract predators. Domesticated horses obviously have no fear of predators, so over the generations they've been using their voice more and more.

Horses don't usually snort if they're angry. Snorting, I'm assuming everyone means when they make that noise through their nostrils. I've never heard a horse snort because of anger. Usually they snort when they are scared or when they're out of breath (like after a workout)

But horses are generally silent creatures. The way they communicate is through body language. In truth, horses rarely make a noise when it's 'angry'. Instead, they pin their ears, narrow their eyes, swish their tail, tense up, etc. to warn you they're feeling edgy. What results after that, of course, is either a kick or a bite or something of the sort.

An angry horse may snort. I've heard louder sounds referred to as "screaming" and I think that fits the activity you describe.

a roar is a great strong heavy neigh.
a squeal is a high whinny; wild horses, for example, squeals when they fight.
and a snort, a blow through their nostrils. Not always means they are mad.
