ok.. i took my twins to the dr yesterday for a regular check up and they pricked their fingers to take blood and they found out that one of my boys has anemia.. i was just wonder is there any one out there that can tell me some healthy foods to help him in getting his red blood cells back to normal.. and let me in own some secrets for getting him to eat foods like leafy greens.. and this is not a problem that we have had before.. and he is also just getting over a slight cold and the dr said that sometimes this can make the count go down.. so they are just keeping any eye on him to make sure that is all that it is.. and she also put him on some iron medicine..

Try vitamin drops with iron for kids.
Or children's chewable tabs.
Or maybe you could give him a pediasure every day.
The main point is to make sure he has his nutrients every day.
His eating habits will change over time.

I am severely anemic. I am on 2 iron pills daily and i eat tons of green leafy veggies(spinach, lettace, and dark green veggie) also red meat. such as hamburger or steak. if his levels dont go back up in several months you need to ask for more tests. Also for the iron pills, i guarantee that your son will get constipated. Ask the doctor for a stool softener. Good Luck!

To get my kids to eat unliked veggies I puree them in the food processor and add it to spagetti sauce. Also peanut butter (4%rdv per tablespoon) and pinto beans(10% rdv perserving)have iron. You can also try cooking in a cast iron skillet. Some iron from the skillet will be absorbed into the food.

Does he like hamburger meat? anyway you can get him to eat that is good
2) all beef weiners but be sure to cut small enough not to choke on the pieces.....they can hold these in their hands easy
3) any red meats
4) if still on bottles.....cut back on bottles and find food with beef in it
Use to have babies come in to clinic all time with low blood count, they drank their bottles and were chubby but count was low.....after switching off the bottles to the red meat as even snacks you will be surprised how it will come up

I gave my daughter pumpkin seeds which are inexpensive and chock full of iron. Also: Life cereal and others that have 90% of the daily iron we need.
