Yes, I feel sorry for him. For one thing, there was not one American civilian killed in Iraq while he was in power. Because he attacked Kuwait ( I hope I spelled that right) is one reason why we attacked Iraq. Why did he do that? Because they were stealing his oil by directional drilling next to the Iraq border. That means that they were drilling at an angle under Iraq from Kuwait and was selling it to us. I can't blame him for that. But we just can't attack Iraq only because of personal gain from a select few here. We had to have a better reason than that. Then along comes the U.N. Security Council and says that he has WMD also. I don't care if he did have WMD.
Then why didn't he use them against us. Because he had them hid and he never figured the war would turn out this way and he was planning on using them against Iran, which is where our problem really is anyhow. I am not on here to teach recent history. It is of my opinion that had we left Saddam alone and let him kick the shiite out of the rest of those Muslims we would still have the WTC standing today as Iraq would be too busy fighting Saddam to bother with us.
We backed Iraq in the Iraq/Iran war. Does it make sinse that we would invade Iraq now. No. It is again my opinion that if we had left Saddam alone, we would have saved almost $1,000,000,000.00. That is one trillion dollars, which includes the six hundred billion that the President is wanting now to continue fightin in Iraq and we would probably still have the WTC. Kinda scarry ain't it?

No, I do not. Have you considered asking him how he feels about being on first name terms with a pleb like you? .
And where were you when the Israelis originally curbed the danger and restricted his military ambitions? A lot further away, too young to think about a passport, or foreign policy, hmm?
Not aware of any nuclear threat to Your continent, perhaps? Not got your contact lenses in that day? Year? Decade? Bless you for waking up and taking note here & now.
Oh. I'm sorry. You were probably focusing on your diploma in resolving family conflict in Hussein circles. Tell me, when a guy wants to sleep with another man's wife, and twice causes a divorce, is this normal or a symptom of kingship? And is this admirable? A radioactive thing? And is it now? Still?
I feel proud to live in this time. I can take no credit for this. But I couldn't care less what he likes to eat. Did his soldiers offer a fast-food menu to his many many many victims? Right, I guess they had sloppy joes flown in before they were executed. Out of respect for their humanity. I'll bet.
A time that values the testimony of people who have nothing going for them. No status, no royal connections, nothing but their fellow humanity and ... their hope for the future. I'm with them.
I do feel sorry for anyone assigned to perform the hanging. Isn't a guillotine more suited to a civilised people? I don't have any problem with putting him down. I do think we should do it as quickly as possible, and not faff about with cruel new methods when we know what works well.

In a way I suppose I do. He was a dupe of the bad side of the civilized world government (don't think the USA is the only government manipulating others.) I had the feeling he wasnt too bright, just self involved. On the other hand, he seemed to enjoy torturing and murdering people, raping women, taking money from anyone for anything, with no regrets. His only regret seemed to be that they caught up with him.
Don't kid yourself, he would have happily nuked us if it would have allowed him to continue in his little "Ego-dom."
Let's face it, he was a worm used by the religious and political forces and now he's going to get stepped on. That's what happens to worms who venture out in public.

Excellent question.
On one hand, he is guilty of despicable acts of genocide and torture and taught his children to engage in the same behaviors.
On the other hand, he was supported directly or indirectly by several governments for decades ... and it seems rather undemocratic for those same world powers to forget their complicity in the creation of his regime, particularly when they escape sharing his punishment.
Ahhhh politics ... but I digress ...
I do not believe he should be hanged. Lethal injection, yes; imprisoned forever, yes, but not hanged. The tribunal is supposed to be civilized; hanging is barbaric, particularly when it is a public spectacle. For cryin' out loud .. this is the 21st century, not the 1st century! What will they do to the next dictator, fill a coliseum with lions?

Sure I do... just as you would if you put a dog to sleep because it mauled a child. Pity more than sympathy. Pity for all that it is and that it isn't. For what it became and for all the things that may have contributed to its makeup. Pity for all the lost potential of a corrupt mind. Better to never have been born.

Yyou reap what you sow as the saying goes. Did he have any mercy for the people that he killed? My government teacher in college was from there and he told us some stories about Saddam before they were even told over the news. How would he have known those things unless they were true and he had heard them from his family? makes me believe that my teacher was telling the truth so I guess I don't have any pity for him

I feel sorrier for the 300,000 victims uncovered in saddam's mass graves ; and for their families who claimed their remains -mostly piles of bones with hair .

Fought Iran? All his pilots defected and he buried his planes in the sand.
I have to agree with you on one point though, His method of rule
is the only one that works in that place......
