Because they themselves grow and one friend will not see that and refuses to modify the friendship. That's the main cause I see when friendships break down.

Friendships change over time. That is something we all have to learn in order to keep our friendship webs healthy. Most friendships change, some break down completely, and some should be abandoned for the good of both friends involved.

Friendships "shift" (acquaintance <=> casual friend <=> close friend <=> best friend) over time and change in life circumstances and proximity between friends. People don't see that and want the friendship to remain as it always was; few friendships are like that.

That's a really good question because I'm going threw that same transition right now.For the most part I believe it's because people change. That change can consist of many different parts for example people can move away, get a better job or even get involve with someone who cause them to change without them realizing it. It's not that they mean to change or grow apart from you but if the friendship is worth it will work it self out. But things do happen

Most of the time it is called growing up. Friends grow apart sometime because their life is so full with work, wife or gf/bf,making a life for themself. They use their time making their own goals come true. Which is okay. Some friends are friends for ever, see each other a lot. Some goes after their own life and have little left for old friends. Do not dislike them, send them a card yourself, let them know your thinking about them.

The reason I think friends grow apart when they're like family is because we become so comfortable with the relationship we quit nurturing it. Friendship needs nurturing like plants need watering.

I swore this wouldn't happen to me and my friends, and guess what, it did! It's just a part of growing up, working full-time jobs, getting engaged/married/what not, having a family, and other factors of adult life take over, and the friends you grew up with unfortunately often take a back burner in your life. They can still be your friend, but it is just a different sort of friendship.

it's a part of life unfortunately. people change and go their own way. if you're really lucky, they find a way into your life again. but if not, cherish the memories and know that you will find other friends in your life. hang in there!
