And who is dictating what you should be proud or ashamed of?
Am I ashamed of something because it is against a societal "norm"?
Well, then. . .I am. Yet I am proud of the fact that I was strong enough to make a decision that others would deem shameful.

Yes. I realized that I had something from my childhood that I thought was shameful, but others thought it had good points and was positive. A lot of people might be ashamed of growing up poor, but if they overcome that and succeed, they should be proud.

Yeah, if you have the courage to admit to other people and yourself what you are ashamed of, that's something to be proud over!

The only way I could feel a sense of pride over something I am sorry for is if I came away from it learning a valuable lesson or if someone other than me benefited greatly from my choice.
