Back in the early agricultural days, farmers needed more daylight hours at certain times of the year so that they could harvest their crops and get them to market before the markets closed back in those days. Now it is really not needed as it was in the past as there are many new, different ways for those in the agricultural business to sell, and/or distribute their goods.

Growing up in Ohio, we always changed the clocks. I hated doing that. I thought "so what". Then I moved to Indiana. And in the summer time, the birds would wake me up at 4:30 a.m. and it was totally daylight outside. You get more daylight at the end of the day also. More time for kids to play outside in the summer. Then, it all made sense to me. So you get more daylight of normal times people are up and doing things. Since the sunrise and sunset change with the seasons, we change it in the spring and fall. Now, Indiana has caught up with the times and changing clocks. Don't mention that to anyone who has grown up here though! They can't stand it! LOL
