You've learned life's lessons of WANTS versus NEEDS and it will be to your advantage financially. Bankruptcy rates are higher than ever throughout the U.S. because of people frivolously spending money they don't have, mainly through credit cards. My father always told me "You can always spend money." Saving money is what counts and remember that if you watch the "pennies", not the dollars, you'll find yourself financially better off and able to cover you needs and probably more. Most people don't even consider that a $1.95 cup of Starbucks Coffee x 360 days adds up to $700. Debt is dumb. Most normal people are just plain broke because they are in debt up to their eyeballs with no hope of help or the desire to save and budget their money; and if in debt, then you're a slave in the sense that you do not have the freedom to use your money to help change your family tree. A recent USA Today article about debt claims 78% of baby boomers have mortgage debt, 59% have credit card debt, 56% percent have car payments. It takes a lot of will, discipline, courage and help to slay the debt monster but it can be done with controlled spending - which you are doing. Imagine how much you'll put toward retirement when you don't have a car payment. This is how the wealthy build their wealth. Debt is really dumb so thumbs up to you for realizing the value of each dollar that you earn/save. Welcome to the real world where you're money matters!

Firstly, you dont ned to tell us you stole just to survive.
That was in the past and you made good.
With your life.

Secondly, you have the money to spend. Wisely on the basic neccessities. You are frugal with it, as you had no money before.
That is okay.

Thirdly, give yourself an allowance to spent. A week, a month.
For pleasure, self indulgence that you want so bad but couldnt when you didnt have a dime. A penny.

This is your reward for your hard work. You earn it. You deserve it. Be happy to treat yourself.

The balance allowance could be brought to the following week, month. Just top up the difference to the "full" amount you had set aside. Didint spend it last week, month?

Dont fret. Make a small step to self indulge abit. There is no harm.

Learn to spend wisely on things you need and then treat yourself once in awhile to a few treats. You survived being poor now live again

Does your job offer direct deposit? If you have the option, deposit part in checking for your bills, part in savings for your future and get a small part in a check (or designate part of the checking account fund) for "fun" money. Use a 401K or other retirement/savings method to have additional future security.

Thank God for Ronald Reagan. And then grant yourself 30 bucks a week to get some extra stuff you would like.

You need to spend some money on food, furniture, and entertainment. Be thrifty; but purchase what you need to have decent clothes and furnishings in your apartment. This you owe yourself - you need to take care of you; no one else will.
