although the color of your stool is partly due to the food you eat, mostly it gets its color from bilirubin. bilirubin is produced from the breakdown of heme, a component of blood.

Food with green dye. Iron turns your poop black not green. I remember when McDonalds first came out with the Shamrock shake. The green dye used in it made both poop and pee deep green. If you did not realize this it would be enough to freak you out.

Because you ate something with a lot of green dye in it, and/or you ate something high in iron or another substance that turned it green.

may be you ate a lot of green food such as vegetables or avocado or chips that are green?

The answer to these observations is almost always LICORICE....real licorice not artificially flavored.
