Now I have no sound and my resolution is horrible.?
I've gone to the website to install a new driver, but the one I installed doesn't work and I'm thinking about throwing the computer out the window!! Haha Can you tell me what a sound card and a video card are?? Is this something that came w/ my computer. (I had no problem w/ sound or video before the recovery). Also, what are the drivers?? I know this sounds weird, but which comes first?! Which should have been installed w/ my recovery? Mute is not selected, the speakers have power and the computer is a Gateway 838GM. Thank you!!

Sorry for the frustration. I know how it feels. The external speaker you have are not effected by the drivers. They plug into the headphone jack, so you need to find out what kind of sound card is installed. You will also need to find the video card and possibly change the display settings based on your monitor type and size.

Gateway has a pretty good support site. Here is a list of what's installed on your computer (http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/5062/5062cl2.shtml). Try going here (http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/search.asp?st=pn¶m=5389) and getting the sound and video downloads. Finally, go to this page (http://support.gateway.com/s/SOFTWARE/Medialess/MLXPMC0/MLXPMC0sl.shtml) to find out how to install them.

Now, aren't you glad you didn't call the Geek Squad and waste $250!

The recovery disk u used contains no drivers at all, just the OS(operating system). When you first bought the computer, if u looked in the manual it said to make these 3 cds that contain all of your drivers, i guess u did not do that so you must now search on line and find the correct drivers for your computer because without them u may not be able to go online, poor video card, poor audio...find out the model of your computer go to gateways website, search for it and it will list all the drivers u need.
