I have tried traps - lots of them, sticky traps, and poison. I see them and I think, "If only I had a little tiny shotgun, I'd fix 'em." But it is ridiculous, like the first three sentences in a very small tragedy. I will google Rat Shot, but eventually the image of my big toe smeared on the hardwood floor will be enough to deter me. Thanks everybody!

We used to have a huge mouse problem. The key is to figure out how they're getting it, and block access. We carefully and slowly went around the outside of our house and blocked even tiny holes, put a cap on the dryer vent, etc.

The next step, once you've blocked access, is to eliminate the mice inside. We like these plastic mousetraps that get them in the neck every time, killing them instantly, instead of sometimes catching them by another body part and having them suffer. Glue traps are also pretty awful, and live traps--well, unless you check them religiously every day, you'll have a dead mouse and a big mess. So, the instant death traps are the way to go. Put them along walls and in corners. Peanutbutter is good bait.

I had a mouse come up from the basement into my kitchen last year. I went to wal-mart and doubtfully bought these cheap plastic glue traps theyre like 3 for 2 bucks. I got him that same night, see I was up at 5am saw him run behind fridge when flicked on light, so thats where I put the trap, between the fridge and wall. But anyways the next morning mouse was stuck to the trap in the middle of kitchen, my cats tried to drag him out. So try buying these first theyre safe and they work good!

Don't know of a shotgun?... i think you can get rat shot for like a .38 pistol...even a .22 pistol ... but you want a shotgun uh? Not that familiar with killing mice with shot guns... if the shot doesn't ruin the floor all the mouse pieces will I'm sure... Just set a trap and get a neighbor to haul it off when he is caught...It's just me thinking you are a girl/lady/woman... and don't want to get close to the mouse...OH... and I'm sure all the animal rights activist will see this and go nuts.....

You should stick with a trap. Shotguns don't come in a small enough guage to keep from ruining your floors from either the shot or mouse remains. The trap is cleaner and quieter.

.410 or .22 rat shot shells for a .22 rifle, it has a low grain charge so ricochet is not a big issue, but it will still be messy, I'd suggest traps, box type, sticky paper or the old head snapper spring loaded wire type. A hungry cat is still the best mouse catching device.

HELP US!! You want to use a 'shotgun' to kill a mouse. Why not buy a box of 25 shells and then you can kill flies in the spring with the left over shotgun shells.

What you need is a 410 gauge. For certain. Saw off the barrel and use a bird shot load. I'd say bout a 12" barrel length would be just about right for the job.
It would be a "classic" scatter gun and wouldnt hurt anything but a mouse.
You might not kill it, but you certainly would not miss it. Then when its stunned and twitching, , , , well you know what to do with it after that.

OH. PS Your neighbors might call the cops.

a shotgun is extremly to big the smallest caliber shotgun is a 410 and it will blow a hole in a floor easily the best thing would be a bb gun or a mouse trap

A .410 is pretty small but the holes it will make in your floors won't be! If you really must embark on your own little rodent bloodbath, might I suggest using a pellet or BB gun.
