Has anyone ever had their baby sleep swaddled and on their stomach at a young age to sleep? My baby seems to like being wrapped up but also seems to sleep better if laid down with her head to the side. she is 7 weeks old. I have watched her when she sleeps and she is able to lift her head up and move from side to side. If i put her on her back she only sleeps about 45 minutes so one part of me wants to do what is 'safe' and the other wants to do what works. I know my siblings and i all slept on our stomachs but i don't think we were swaddled.
thank you

I had trouble getting my oldest daughter to sleep for more than about 30 minutes. I called my mom and of course, the doctor told me that swaddling and tummy sleeping was bunk so I didn't believe her. She said, Grandma had like 15 kids, you think she knows what she is doing? I said sure. So we called her she says, Swaddle that baby right up and put her down on her tummy. She slept fine. I know they (Dr's) tell you not to put them on their tummys anymore but it works and has worked for YEARS. So has swaddling.

Swaddling is excellent for babies. However, don't put your baby to sleep on her tummy! There is an increased risk of SIDS! You and your siblings were lucky to survive stomach sleeping, many of us were. But it is a fact that SIDS related deaths have decreased significantly since the start of the "Back to Sleep" campaign of only putting your baby to sleep on their back. Tummy time is for awake time only. Your baby should never sleep on her stomach until she is over a year old!

Keep her on her back or tuck a rolled blanket under one side to roll her slightly to the side. There is truly a connection to SIDS and tummy sleeping and it's just better to be cautious just in case your baby just happens to be one of those prone to the problem. She'll get used to it and sleep longer after a while.

Once she can roll over both ways, then it's not a problem.

The "experts" all say no way. Only put her to sleep on her back.

How about one of those little foam things - the triangles, you can get them at Target. I had one and loved it. I swaddled him and laid him on his side in it so he wouldn't roll onto his back or onto his stomach.

Stomach sleeping is bad for you anyway so it might be a bad habit to start.

My daughter slept on her tummy all during her infantcy. I slept on my tummy, my sister slept on her tummy, my ex husband slept on his tummy, my cousins slept on their tummies, my nieces and nephews slept on their tummies. There USED to be a theory (among the other thousands of theories) That tummy sleeping led to SIDS. There is no basis for this theroy as it has never been proven, especially since babies who slept on their backs have been victims of sids as well. If the baby is more comfortable swaddled and put on it's tummy then do so.

If you want to put your baby to sleep in 20 seconds you must get the "Instant Baby Sleep" MP3 sound track. Here is their official web-site: http://www.instantbabysleep.net

The sound track gently produces energy over the full human hearing spectrum with an embedded pulse that gently eases the brain to the Alpha state well known for drowsiness and sleep induction.

Mom knows best. With me, my children loved to be swaddled, but as long as they were wrapped I didn't put them on their tummies. It was either one or the other. Medical opinion changes all the time, so you have to do what you think is best.

Just becuase someone raised 15 kids and none of them had SIDS doesnt mean it isnt a valid issue. Your baby will get used to sleeping on her back, it takes a little while. Her risk will only lower when she can roll over herself. I would never put my baby on her tummy!

I always put my daughter to sleep on her side otherwise she wouldn't sleep. I wouldn't put my baby on her stomach to sleep because I am scared of all the SIDS talk but if you feel that she is ok then that is your choice. I would think that putting her to sleep on her stomach is ok for naps when you will be watching her but personally I would be scared to do it over night.
