Alright, I will tell this story from the beginning, it is long, and possibly boring. Brace yourself.
It all began a few days ago when I installed pets. I had these icky walls that flashed black and red. I imagined it had something to do with my custom content, which I had disabled from the beginning. I went back, deleted my custom content, and tried again. Icky black and red walls stayed. I reinstalled everything, but that didn't work either. After searching the BBS, I found that my video card wasn't up to par. Today, I went and got a new video card, an ATI Raedon 9550. I started up the Sims 2, (with pets) and it worked beautifully. No more icky black and red walls. Plus, the images were clear and sharp. After 10-15 minutes of playing, my game crashed. I shrugged it off, and retried the game. Again, after 10-15 minutes of playing, the game crashed again. With some help from my dad, I disabled my old video card. That didn't help. (My custom content wasn't put back yet.) I went back to the BBS, and one person suggested that I lower the settings on my game, if they were too high. I lowered my settings, because they were all on high, and played for close to 45 minutes before my game crashed. I retried it just now, and the game crashed within 5-10 minutes of playing. My game has NEVER crashed before without reason, like this. I have no idea what to do...
What's wrong with my game/computer, and how can I fix it?

I don't know what your problem is, but let me say, the ATI Radeon card SUCKS. It's the one I have, and when I try to play games, some things don't work, and I reported it, and they asked what my video card was, and I said ATI Radeon, and they said that card gives a lot of problems. Anyway, just saying.

Have you tried playing the sims 2 without pets with your new card? I would try that first. If that works, it's something wrong with Pets. You could try returning it from where you bought it, but just make sure you say it was a defective disk. If that doesn't work, see if there are any new drivers for your video card that it might now have. Do this by going to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and selecting and finding your card. If none of this works, then it is something wrong with either your sims 2, or your computer, and hopefully for you it's the former.

You should have done your homework before getting a new card. You need to know the wattage of your computer that you can find out by opening the case looking at the power supply unit or PSU which is where the power plugs into the back of your computer it will tell you the wattage if you don't have the wattage you can easily get the PSU replaced. You need to know if you have the capabilities and memory to operate the card. You might also want to see if you pushed the new card all the way in.
You should have done your homework before going out to get a new card it is a waste of money and can make things worse if it doesn't work.

One more thing you can try is to make sure your sound and video drivers are up to date. Especially your video drivers since your card is new. Go to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and find the driver for your card. If that doesn't help, then I'm not sure what else to try. Is there a patch for the game?
