I'm a medical transcriptionist and I get paid by the line, and that's fine. But after hours, the hospital can call us and request a specific dictation get done. So I've spent up to 30 minutes looking for it, only to find out it doesn't exist, then not get paid for that 30 minutes. I think it is BS.

It sucks, but that's part of the bargain, however unfair, in a "piecework" occupation.

Hey, are you still considering that other thing we were talking about?

My pay is commision based and I probably put in 3-5 hours a week doing things for free that should have been done by one of the hourly paid people.

It is BS, but it's probably legal.

Unfortunately you get paid by the # of lines you type, not for the time you spend researching. That does suck, but I don't think you can fight that one. But it doesn't hurt to try. You should ***** about it, it's your time that you've put in for their benefit.

Edit:
Dad says you may sew them or threaten them with a lawsuit because you are in titled to 30 minutes of overtime pay because you are a registered hospital employee and they are practicing an illegal independent movement if they don't pay you overtime.
