Doctors and Dentist will ask you if you are pregnant. They will lay a lead filled cover over your abdomen. As a precautionary measure, they will use this cover even if you say you are not pregnant.

First it all depends on what the exam is and how many pictures were taken. Some exams require more x-rays than others. It depends on the type of exam, how many times you have had the exam while pregnant. It also depends on which trimester the pregnancy is in. The first trimester is the most susceptible to the fetus. Lead aprons are used to protect the person or fetus from radiation, however lead aprons are not designed to stop the primary beam. As you can see there are many variables. The only accurate method is to have a physicist calculate the dose.

Yes, they are. Studies have shown a relationship between x-rays and birth defects. X-ray techs usually always ask if you are pregnant and protect you and the baby from the effects of radiation by covering your abdomen with a lead apron. If they don't ask you need to tell them.

yes, they can be dangerous if you are pregnant. whenever I've gone for an x-ray, they always ask if I'm pregnant, or could be. I never have been pregnant, but they still put a special protective apron over my pelvis to protect my ovaries...
ask a doctor, and if you need an x-ray, they should be talking to you about all this anyway. they should be able to tell you if they can protect you properly if you are pregnant, and they should be able to explain the possible risks as well... if they can't, find someone who can before you have the procedure done.

When you go for xrays there is a reason they ask if you are or could be pregnant...yes it COULD harm the fetus. You do not want to have xrays during your pregnancy unless ABSOLUTELY necessary, if it is a matter of YOUR LIFE or death. Those lead aprons someone spoke about are for EVERYONE, especially women in the "child bearing years". Xrays can damage the sexual organs of a woman, even if it is only "minor". If you are pregnant and have xrays I suggest VERY strongly that you inform your doctor, the doctor will want to check to make certain the baby is alright.

They don't recommend it, but one won't hurt if it's needed. I had an x-ray done when I was pregnant (I didn't know I was pregnant) and my daughter is fine. Just avoid them if they're not really needed, and don't get multiple ones. Also, try to cover the belly area with a lead apron.

Possibly, which is when when getting an x-ray, a suspected pregnancy MUST be reported so that a lead lined apron can go over the stomach :)

Your x-ray technician should ask if you are or COULD BE pregnant. You should NOT get an x-ray if you could be pregnant. Call the hospital right now if you have had one.
