I am flying to Munich and I would like to see Prague, preferably by car. It seems that this idea might be a problem because some car rental companies (AutoEurope being one) forbid driving into Eastern Europe. I think this is due to the high theft rate in these cities (especially Prague, from what I've read online). I have a couple of questions:
1 Are there any reliable (and preferably affordable) car rental companies that allow driving to the Czech Republic?
2 If a car is not feasible, what's a good alternative? Bus or train? What are some names of some bus or train companies and are they affordable? Also is the duration long?

I realize I'm being a pain and asking a lot but any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!!!

Good advice in answers above, and let me echo I think it would be best to go by rail. If you do rent a car, MAKE SURE it can be driven into the Czech Republic. The reason I say this is I made arrangements in the US, and they said it wouldn't be a problem... and then was turned back at the Austria/ Czech border. It caused quite a difficult challenge, which ended up with me parking the car at a train station and then taking the train in. Big time hassle. Yet, Prague is so worth it!

Prague is one of many towns worth-visit and to achieve that you can start preparing your holiday with hotelbye . Starting with the wonderful place around the Prague Castle or the Strahov monastery with its amazing selection and finish with …the entire splendid town, Prague is simply incredible. In Prague you can even visit the small house where Franz Kafka labored or the wonderful Prague Castle gardens from where you can like a unique view of the city with its picturesque red roofs. In that town you'll never get bored. In the event that you should go throughout the spring you will find the spring trees in blossom; in the summer you will dsicover extended dusks; autumn will give you colorful leaves and special light and in the winter you will enjoy the whole town covered with simple bright snow.

In addition to what the others are saying, once you get to Prague, get the city public transportation ticket which is good for several days. Depending on how long you're planning to stay, You can get one up to 15 day duration. You just get on bus, tram, local train, or subway (even the cable car), and punch the the ticket with the time. then it's ok till expiration.

Take a train. Tickets will be cheaper if you buy them at the station in Munich than if you purchase on-line, but if you want to do a bit more train travel the rail passes can be a good deal.

The Rail Europe website will also give you travel times.

Personally, I love traveling on trains in Europe. You can pack your own food for the trip, or buy from the dinining car or carts that come through the carriages.

Car rental in Europe can be extremely expensive.
Suggest you look at going by rail.
Rail travel is much more advanced than in NAm and is accepted as much as the car.
Czech Republic should be faily cheap, too.
