I can't understand why people will engage in annoying/destructive/malicious (and any other negative behavior you can think of) behavior simply because they know they won't be caught or found out. I suppose it's a lack of empathy; then again, some people appear to have empathy (or at least, an understanding of the pain/discomfort they cause other people), and yet they thrive on knowing that they are hurting someone.

My apologies; if I continue, I'll go off on some tangent. I'll save the rest for another question, another day.

Because part of your inhibitions are based on not wanting to suffer the consequences. If you don't believe something is wrong, then not being able to be caught removes the only real incentive not to do it.

If your personal value system says it's wrong to steal, you wouldn't even if you couldn't be caught. But if you think it's ok, and only fear punishment, then it comes down to weighing the chances of capture versus how badly you want something. So if you could guarantee not to be caught, you'd do it.

Beyond me totally, maybe some people don't have that little Jimny cricket on their shoulder to give conscience a nudge.

It's in your subcons. mind. You would like to be "naughty" but jimminy cricket is on your shoulder. A little alcohol or "drugs" lets the badger out and he frolics.
