It really depends on whether your connecting through Airport or Ethernet.

For Ethernet:

Go to System Preferences -> Network
Select what your using (Ethernet or Airport)
Most DSL Providers use a PPPoE network, so select that and insert your information. If you don't have it, call your provider.
It may be that your connecting to the wrong network, Macs usually recognize it.

For Airport:

Go to System Preferences -> Network -> Airport
Click on airport on the bar that has the different networks (Airport, TCP/IP, etc.)
Make sure it says "By Default, Join AUTOMATIC"
Click "TCP/IP" and make sure your information is there, if not, get it and enter it.
Click PPPoE and enter your information, but first find out if your SP uses PPPoE, most do, such as Bellsouth.

Email me with more questions, this was broad, I can tell you more.

DSL usually uses PPPoE. Go to System Preferences under the Apple Menu and click on Network. Then select "Show: Network Status" and click on the PPPoE tab. From there, check the "Connect using PPPoE" button and enter your account name and password.
