My baby sister has a terrible rash on her side and her leg. I think that it is slowly spreading. It is red and blotchy and she itches is a lot. She is only fifteen monthes old and won't see the doctor until next week. I need a remedy that will sooth the rash but will still be safe for her skin. And if anyone knows what it might be... At first we thought it was a reaction to a medication but if you think it may be something else please tell me.

It could be an allergic reaction to meds, or food, or drink. Anything. I dont know of anything that will make it go away until the doc finds out what it is. But, I know of something you can pick up at your local pharmacy, that will soothe it and keep it from getting infected in the event that it blisters and such. Its called Resinol Ointment. Works great for diaper rash, open cuts or wounds, etc. Its kinda redish, so make sure you put something on her that its okay if it gets on, it will wash out tho. It works wonders and I swear by it!

She could be allergic to your laundry soap, or something shes eatting. It does not have to occur all over the body... I would start by giving her a bath in clear clean water, without soap. Put her in some jammies that are comfy; and washed in a hyperallergenic laundry soap.

You can put some cornstarch on it if its irritating to her.

Hope it goes away soon. :)

Food or other allergies can occur at any time... it could be something she has eatten for a long time, or something new to her.

It can also be red dye found in juices...

Wow, I could make a huge list.

If she starts running a fever, see a doctor sooner... or if shes in any pain.

Keep it extra clean, expose it to the air as much as possible. When it must be covered, sprinkle with cornstarch first. When you bathe her, be sure to use something very mild such as Ivory or Castille soap. Nothing with any kind of perfume though. Make sure she does see the Dr. next week so he/she can tell you what is causing it & how to treat it correctly. Bless you for caring so much for your little sister.

It can possibly be excema, which my son has. It is the itch that rashes; the more she itches the worse it gets. If that is the case try using Aquafor and cortizone 10 together on it and try keeping her from itching (if possible)! Hope this works, it helped my son alot!

Try making a paste of baking soda and water. Oatmeal baths (oatmeal in a sock thrown into LUKEWARM water). If she is running a fever I would call that doctor and insist on seeing them sooner.

If she was recently on meds then it is most likely a reaction and in that case she needs to see the doctor asap. Especially if it moves to her face.
