I love Star Trek, I always watched it when i was like 10, why do people think that star trek is a nerd show? im not a nerd and its my favorite show.We have learned alot from it. Look at cell phones, the first star trek had cell phone like things, and people that it was impossible, but now we have it. I think its good we learn from fantasising. Does anyone agree?

Sounds like you are with a very unsophisticated crowd if they are criticizing you for enjoying Star Trek. I think (the original) Star Trek is very cool and most of my friends do, too. TV in general is very superficial and dumb...by comparison Star Trek is a litttle more challenging and anyone who puts it down is threatened because it's over their heads.

Well I have met a lot of Trek nerds, and a lot of fairly 'normal' people who like Trek. It's a question I have pondered a bit. Do people like Trek because they are nerds, or does an interest in Trek make them a nerd? It depends on your level of interest - Trek has attracted a lot of casual viewers over the years, not just the 'nerd' (indeed if it only attracted nerds it would have small ratings and wouldn't survive). the key is to enjoy Trek, but try to maintain a balance in your life with other interests and socialising etc - only you know if you have the balance right. If you are happy being a nerd, that's what matters. If you think you could broaden your horizons a bit, that's good too.

I think it's because the characters on the show were nerdy. I mean, come on, no one acts like Cpt. Kirk or Spock, lol. But, it was a good fantasy show during it's time. I even had a friend in Jr. High who wrote her own Star Trek script and it was pretty good, as well as I can remember.

Well, I have to believe the nerd image comes from those Trekkie conventions, where a lot of the attendees are dressed up in costume. You have to admit, that is kind of goofy.

Having said that, it seems to me teen-agers who go to rock concerts dressed like Madonna or Gene Simmons should endure similar ridicule. But, I suppose "rock nerd" and "sci fi nerd" are two different things.

Because it is. Even Shatner thinks so.
