Sounds like the mixture is too lean. There are two screws on the carb. One for idle speed(the one you're probably adjusting), and one for mixture. Turn the mixture screw CCW 1/4 at a time and try to start the bike again. Once you get the bike running, adjust this screw slowly for maximum RPM. If idle gets too high turn down the idle speed screw. The idea is to peak the idle speed with the mixture screw. Adjust to the correct speed with the speed screw.
The problem may have been that the mixture screw may not have been pre-adjusted at the factory. Pre-adjustment is usually as follows: Turn mix-screw CW all the way in gently with a small screwdriver and don't over-tighten,(if its already fully in that's the problem). Then back it out 1 to 1 1/4 turns. Then try the above.
Hope this gets your son on the road!

A 2 stroke is extra convenient to maintain even inspite of the shown fact that it demands extra maintenance. it is not inevitably swifter than a 4 stroke. of direction a CR250 will tear up a CRF230 any day of the week. yet a CRF 450 will kill the CR250. The extra moderen 4 strokes are much extra helpful than they was once, the technologies has replaced extensively. I had difficulty conserving up with my pal on his YZ426, i became using a KX500. In a drag race we've been quite close yet around fifty 5 or so I crowned out and he saved on going. that express same pal and myself the two have a similar motorcycles now, Husky TE510's. I never extremely rode the YZ426 lots yet in his words the TE will stomp his 426. i comprehend for a actuality that my 510 could consume my previous KX500 for lunch no question approximately it. The 4 stroke is a thank you to bypass extremely in case you want a shopper friendly path motorbike it somewhat is low maintenance. there is not something incorrect with a 2 stroke however the 4 stroke is basically lots extra versatile and extra convenient to attend to.

Check the air filter, then start and let idle for 5-ten mins. if you flood it, tip it all the way to the ground till gas pours from the over flow tube on the carb. it prob nedds to be warmed very long during break in. if you bike is used you are in serious neeed of a new top end

Most bikes are cold natured try running the choke a little longer.Maybe the dealer failed to check it out when he took it out of the crate. Is Gas sufficient in the tank? The air screw may be turned out to far.On a small machine it is usually about 1-1.5 turns out from bottom. Is oil in the gas ?It mayhave a partial piston seizier,Better let the dealer take care of it.

i bought my son a 50cc 4 stroke and he had the same problem. finely when it did start it made alot of noise so had to have it fixed. the shop told me he got on it to hard at first he caused the piston ring to disintegrate. they also told me the first tank of gas to take it easy and to buy 93 octane gas.
