The best way for a speaker box, assuming you have only 90 degree angle and no ports is:
length inches x width inches x heighth inches =
then divide by 12 three times (converts the inches to cubic feet)
Example:
40 x 10 x 20 = 8000
/12, /12, /12 = ~4.6 cubic feet

Cubic feet is the length * width * height. Make sure to convert everything into inches first or everything in terms of feet first. For example, suppose the length is 1 foot 2 inches. To convert it to feet, it would be 1 foot + 2 / 12 = 1 + 2/12 = 1 1/3 feet. If you convert to inches, It would be 1 foot * 12 = 12 inches + 2 inches =14 inches. When you multiply all of the values together, you have to convert back to feet; it will be in cubic inches otherwise.
