I'm 13. I am really into rock bands like, Tool, The Afters, Green Day, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Kasabian, Jack's Mannequin, Plain White T's, Audioslave, Evanessence, Flyleaf, Lacuna Coil, Muse, Nirvana, Snow Patrol and t.A.T.u.

I play the guitar and piano. I've taken voice lesson for 6 or 7 years. I can sing mainstream music, and classical music like in German, Russian, Latin, Spanish, Italian, and English.

I love putting emotion in my music I write. I make the lyrics and the music. With the guitar and piano. What will help me make my sound not like Hilary Duff and other people like that. The way I sing is nothing like poppy, how those people sing. What will help?

You should make sure your vocals aren't very light. Put lots of emotion into your music. If your song is sad, sound sad(but not whiny), if your song is angry, sing louder in some points. Good Luck, and p.s. when you make a cd, email it to me at jgomez60@charter.net

Get some awesome guitar sounds in the backround. It doesn't even have to be that heavy. Get some good drumming, too. That will make a huge difference. Bass will as well. Look at Flyleaf. Lacey's vocals are very poppy (in my opinion at least), but the music behind it is what makes it rock.

Good luck with the singing, guitar and piano playing and writing! I sing, write lyrics and play some guitar, and I believe it is truly a gift. I love it so much! =)

I'm in a firm believer in your music being a form of yourself. How ever it sounds when you play and sing it out is how it should be. You should embrace what ever sound you come up with. Johnny Cash didn't try to sound the way he did it just happend. As it did with all the greats. It's just whats in you. And if you happen to sound like Aly and AJ that's not half bad. The lyrics are far better than what most people can write and the music has the right blend of pop and soulful vocals.

I recommend you use big words and make your lyrics more captivating.Hilary and Aly&AJ usually sing about love and those nonsense..Write songs about drama, angst or any other situations teens go through that does not include love dilemnas...unless you want to write about love change the words so that your lyrics dont look like you're talking about love..when I said use big words, I meant like check out the dictionary and just use random words like clandestine, intricate, or egregious...
